Welcome to ULLR Backcountry
"Leadership and route decision-making should be a group process, made from ongoing discussion and observations of conditions, not by the fastest person way out front." - Brad Martin
Know Before You Go
Located in the popular mountain town of Bend, Oregon, ULLR Backcountry provides training in avalanche hazard assessment, decision-making, and rescue. Backcountry education is a journey, not a race. As the volume of people recreating in the backcountry grows, the importance of safe decision making are increasingly higher.
At ULLR Backcountry, we know that an avalanche is one of the most powerful things the mountain can throw at you. Our mission is to provide you with the tools, knowledge, and decision making skills necessary to minimize your exposure to risk in avalanche terrain. Whether you are a beginner or intermediate backcountry traveler, our courses provide valuable information tailored to your experience level. Let us help you make the most of your next backcountry winter adventure.
All courses are based out of Bend with the field portion occuring in Deschutes National Forest.
